Dog Nail Clipping in Grantham

Safe, gentle, and stress-free nail trimming for dogs of all breeds and sizes. Keep your dog's nails at a healthy length - essential for their comfort, posture, and wellbeing.

Why Regular Nail Clipping Matters

Overgrown nails aren't just unsightly - they can cause real discomfort and health problems for your dog. When nails grow too long, they press against the ground and alter the way your dog holds and uses their paws, which can lead to postural issues, discomfort during walking, and in severe cases, skeletal problems.

Long nails can also snag and tear, causing painful injuries. If left for too long, the quick (the blood vessel inside the nail) grows longer, making safe trimming more difficult.

Regular nail trims - every 4–8 weeks for most dogs - keep everything at a healthy length and prevent these issues from developing. It's a small thing that makes a big difference to your dog's day-to-day comfort.

Our nail clipping service is available as a standalone appointment - you don't need to book a full groom. It's quick, gentle, and carried out with years of experience behind every clip.

FAQ

Nail Clipping FAQs

Everything you need to know about dog nail clipping at Woof Love & More.

How often should a dog's nails be clipped?
Most dogs need their nails clipped every 4–8 weeks, though this varies depending on how active your dog is and what surfaces they walk on. Dogs who walk regularly on hard surfaces like pavement may naturally wear their nails down faster. We're happy to advise based on your individual dog.
Is nail clipping painful for dogs?
Nail clipping should not be painful when done correctly by an experienced groomer. The key is avoiding the quick - the blood vessel inside the nail. We are experienced in safe, comfortable nail trimming for dogs of all sizes and temperaments.
My dog hates having their nails done. Can you still help?
Yes. Many dogs are anxious about nail clipping, often because of past negative experiences. We use calm, patient handling and work at your dog's pace. For very anxious dogs, we may recommend starting with very short sessions and gradually building confidence.
Do you clip nails as a standalone service?
Yes. Nail clipping is available as a standalone service - you don't need to book a full groom. Many owners pop in specifically for a quick nail trim. Walk-ins are sometimes possible, though booking ahead is recommended.
Do you offer nail filing as well as clipping?
Yes. After clipping we can file the nails smooth to prevent sharp edges. This is particularly useful for dogs who live with elderly owners, young children, or those with delicate skin.
What if my dog's nails are very long or overgrown?
If your dog's nails have been left for a long time, the quick (the blood vessel) may have grown long too. In this case, very short frequent trims over several weeks may be needed to gradually bring the nails to a healthy length. We'll assess and advise when you come in.
